Online Backup
Gravit8’s Backup & Recovery solution uses Acronis Backup Cloud to create secure, automated backups on our private cloud. First, we take an initial snapshot onsite to minimise downtime. Then, ongoing backups run automatically, ensuring your data is always protected.
The backups are protected with military grade encryption and have a version control of up to 30 copies. Your encrypted data is stored within the borders of South Africa, so the solution does abide by the POPI requirements. The solution is automatic, so as long as you have an internet connection, the backups will run; there is no human intervention required. We have a dedicated resource monitoring backup jobs, so if there is a failure, it will be investigated and the backup re-run.
Our online backup solution can also backup O365 mailboxes, SharePoint Sites, and G-Suite.

Onsite Backup
Although we strongly recommend that all clients include a cloud-based component in their backup strategy, it’s equally important to maintain an onsite equivalent. For this reason, we use Acronis to manage reliable backup schedules for local storage. Depending on the storage location and frequency, we may recommend either an annual or monthly Acronis licensing model. Typically, our onsite backup process involves rotating a set of 2.5” removable drives — offering both convenience and redundancy.
Power Solutions
Given the current state of ESKOM, it’s advisable to protect your electronic devices. This can be achieved through a simple surge protection plug or an uninterrupted power supply (UPS). However, a common mistake is assuming that a UPS will keep your devices running throughout a power outage. In reality, a UPS is designed to protect your equipment from power dips and surges, as well as to give you enough time to save your work and safely shut down your device — not to continue working during an outage.
If you’re looking for a solution that keeps your equipment running until power is restored, you’ll need to consider an inverter. That said, this is a more costly option and requires installation by a qualified electrician.
